Karnataka Covid lockdown news live: Black fungus cases on the rise in north Karnataka

LIVE NOW

The Karnataka government on Friday extended lockdown in the state till June 7, considering the rising cases of Covid-19 in rural areas and an urgent need to bring down positivity and fatality rates. Karnataka reported 32,218 fresh infections and 353 deaths in the past 24 hours. On the brighter side, the state saw 52,581 discharges. The state has reported 548, 468 and 525 fatalities in the past three days. The ongoing lockdown, which has been in force from May 10, was to end on May 24. There will be no changes to the existing regulations, including restrictions on interdistrict travel, till June 7. As Covid-19 infections spread further into the hinterlands of Karnataka, the government is scrambling to get at least temporary infrastructure up and running before the situation gets out of hand. Karnataka is set to resume the drive to vaccinate those aged between 18 and 44 years from Satur-day, but only for frontline workers and priority groups. Even those suffering comorbidities in this group have been excluded. Stay with TOI for more updates from Karnataka:Read Less
