Navi Mumabi: NMMC opens up 24 schools to house 1,350 migrant workers – Times of India

NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to open up 24 of its municipal schools in order to house close to 1350 migrant workers and their families who are currently seen trying to walk towards their villages during the lockdown.
“Food and drinking water will also be provided to all the poor migrant workers in our various municipal schools till the lockdown period. This way, there will not be any risk of transmigration of people across the states,” said a civic PRO.
These schools turned shelters are located in various nodes like Belapur, Vashi, Airoli, Nerul, Turbhe, Koparkhaiane, Ghansoli, Digha.
NMMC has also informed that at present, there are a total of 643 home quarantined persons, while 87 are in the quarantine ward of NMMC at Vashi. There is no increase in the total number of positive cases, which stands at 8.
