Tamil Nadu saw another massive spike in the number of Covid-19 cases on Saturday. As many as 231 fresh Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the state.
This marks the highest cases registered in the state in a single day so far. The total tally in the state now stands at 2,757. One death was registered on Saturday, taking the death toll in the state to 29.
Of the new cases, 174 of the cases reported are from Chennai, the biggest red zone in the state. The total cases recorded in the city stand at 1257.
The media bulletin released by the state government said, “1,39,490 samples have been taken and sent for testing. Covid-19 testing is done in 34 government and 13 private labs all over Tamil Nadu. One new private lab Metropolis Healthcare, Chennai has been added for testing.”
“2,757 persons have tested positive till date. 1,35,698 samples were tested negative. Testing of 1,035 samples are under process. 9,358 samples are repeat samples. 1,341 Covid-19 positive patients have been discharged following treatment till today. Hence, 1,384 active cases are under treatment as on today,” the bulletin said.
29 people have recovered and gone home making the total number of people discharged so far 1,341.
The state currently has 12 red zones, 24 orange zones and one green zone. The state government said that there will not be any relaxation in the containment zones in the state, and that lockdown relaxations as described by the central government will continue across the state.
The main aim of the state currently is containment of the virus. Stringent policies will be followed across the state is what the state government has said so far.
